Assist the Propagator with activities related to growing hardy landscape plants, including trees, shrubs and perennials. Other duties involve planting, pruning, potting, watering, staking, preparing and sticking cuttings, seed collecting and processing, and weed control.

Position Details:

  • To give the student the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in propagation, production, andmaintenance of landscape nursery crops
  • 13 week (500 to 600 hours) full time summer program from late May through August
  • Primarily 8 hours per day, some weekends as needed

Job Description:

  • Container Production: Potting/production line and plant maintenance including weeding, spacing, watering
  • Propagation: Seed collection, processing, sowing. Prepare and stick cuttings, grafting
  • Field Liner Production: Production, propagation, and growing activities related to field liner production
  • Labor in Other Departments: B&B production, landscape install & construction, and others as required

Qualifications:

  • Should be a student of Horticulture or related field
  • Avid interest in horticulture propagation and production
  • All parameters set by the student’s academic institution
  • Keep a daily log of work and learning experiences to be reviewed by internship supervisor
  • Required to be productive, self-motivated worker. Capable of fast paced repetitive work
  • Need to be able to safely lift 50 pounds

Compensation:

$10.00 per hour
