The Plant Health Specialist is based out of our Production Farm in Jackson, WI. This position manages the overall health of all our plants – container-grown and field-grown (B&B). The successful candidate will help to improve the processes that surround plant health management and promote overall pesticide safety. The ideal candidate has their Pesticide Applicator’s License, experience with common green industry chemicals, and can operate the machinery used to apply them.
Full Time or Seasonal Employment.
8-10 hours per day.
Overtime and weekends are expected from March through July.
Monitor and control weed pressure in container ranges and field applications using chemical and physical means.
Monitor and control insect and disease pressure in container ranges and field applications using appropriate treatments.
Monitor soil fertility and apply fertilizer or supplements as needed.
Plant cover crops in designated areas.
Plant Health Specialist’s work predominately outdoors.
Maintain machinery used for the application of pesticides and herbicides.
Order and maintain stock of plant fertility supplements and pest treatments.
Keep detailed records of work completed.
Obtain and maintain the appropriate Pesticide Applicator’s License if not already acquired.
Experiment with and formulate new treatments to aid in maintaining plant health.
Degree in Horticulture, Plant Pathology or similar degree, background in farming, or equivalent industry experience
Knowledge of woody plants, their pests, and their control.
Knowledge of local weeds and their control.
Experience operating farm equipment, machines, and tools.
Experience using, maintaining, and calibrating sprayers.
Good organization and record-keeping skills.
Ability to move and lift 50 or more pounds.
Attention to detail in verbal and written communication.
Positive and outgoing attitude with an internal drive to succeed.
Good observation skills.
Love of the outdoors.
