The Assistant Field Production Foreperson is based out of our Production Farm in Jackson, WI. This position assists with overall digging and planting operations alongside the Production Manager. You’ll lead a crew of workers to manage the overall health of plants, including planting, staking, pruning, and shearing, as well as incoming and outgoing inventory. The ideal candidate has a working knowledge of northern hardy deciduous plant stock, experience with farm tools and equipment, and a Pesticide Applicator’s License.

Position Details

  • Full-time, year-round
  • 8-10 hours per day
  • Overtime and weekends are expected from March through July

Job Description

  • Shear and maintain evergreen/coniferous crops
  • Prune deciduous trees to establish and maintain good form and branching
  • Take inventory of plants in the field at certain points in the year
  • Tag plants for orders
  • Assist with digging operations
  • Assist with planting operations

Qualifications

  • Lead a crew of up to +/- 5 people
  • Have knowledge of different species of plants and their growth habits
  • Detail-orientated and organized
  • Physical and mental toughness
  • Ability to identify pest/disease issues with plants
  • A pesticide applicator’s license and the ability to apply correct chemical treatments are a plus
  • Degree in Horticulture or a similar degree, or equivalent industry experience (3-5 years in plant production)
  • Experience operating farm equipment, machines, and tools
  • Good management skills to maintain an efficient work environment
  • An insurable driver’s license is a must (through our provider)
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between our properties
  • Bi-lingual a plus
  • Positive, outgoing attitude with an internal drive to succeed
  • No remote work

Compensation

$19.00-$22.00 per hour, depending on experience
